In 2010, CityScience is fortunate to have a new and talented Board of Directors. Each member brings a diverse background and expertise in the fields of education, science, and urban planning. In the coming year, CityScience will continue to expand the Board.
Mr. Edward Blatchford - Chairperson
Recently retired after a forty-year career as an educator and school administrator, Mr. Blatchford has most recently founded Four Rivers Charter School in Greenfield, MA. Focusing on nature, technology, and community, Four Rivers reflects Mr. Blatchford’s commitment to education that explores the balance between nature and technology.
Mrs. Suzanne Sobel - Treasurer
Mrs. Sobel is President of Consider It Done, a firm specializing in accounting and financial management. Mrs. Sobel believes all students deserve quality educations and that learning from one’s surroundings builds an appreciation for our environment.
Mr. Mike Powell - Secretary
Mr. Powell is Vice President of Planning and Development for New Jersey Community Development Corporation. Mr. Powell holds a masters degree in Urban Planning and began his ten year career as a city planner in New Jersey working in Governor Whitman’s Office of Sustainability.
Mr. Zachary Bernstein
Mr. Bernstein is an associate practicing real estate law at Fried Frank. A true urban enthusiast, Mr. Bernstein believes that the continuous process of building and rebuilding cities provides critical learning opportunities.
Dr. Jonathan Cobb
A retired physician, Dr. Cobb is transitioning to teaching undergraduate biology, anatomy, and physiology. His commitment to science education extends beyond the classroom and into counseling students pursuing health science careers. Dr. Cobb’s awareness of the need for supportive education environments in urban areas was influenced by his mother, a renowned research scientist.
Mr. Michael Kasdan
Mr. Kasdan is a partner with Amster, Rothstein and Ebenstein, a firm specializing in Intellectual Property Law. Mr. Kasdan not only utilizes his background in electrical engineering while dealing with new technologies, he has mentored students in math and physics and believes children shouldn’t just use technology, they should learn to build it.
Mr. Rahul Kothari
Mr. Kothari is a Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development for Sequa Corporation, a subsidiary of The Carlyle Group. Mr. Kothari has an MBA from the Wharton School and a BS in biochemistry and chemistry. Mr. Kothari believes scientific thinking builds life skills and creates opportunities in life.
